HTH Pools — Connected Pool Management App
HTH Pools developed an IoT device for remote pool chemical management — but the device had no way to be configured or monitored except via a small on-device screen. Dan led product strategy and UX design for the companion mobile app.
The Challenge
HTH Pools built an innovative connected device that could automatically manage pool chemical levels — but without a companion app, owners and maintenance teams had no way to configure or monitor it remotely. The hardware was limited to a small on-device screen, making it impractical for real-world use across multiple pools.
Our Approach
Dan identified the configuration requirements and mapped user pathways for two distinct account types: owners managing their own pool, and power-user maintenance teams managing multiple properties. Key design challenges included making chemical level configuration intuitive for non-technical users, presenting complex monitoring data clearly, and enabling quick at-a-glance pool status assessment — so users could know immediately whether a pool was ready for use.
The Outcome
HTH Pools has continued innovating as the hardware moves toward final production. The mobile app design provides both owner and maintenance team experiences that match the sophistication of the underlying device — making a genuinely useful technology accessible to the people who need it.
